DATE: January 13-15, 2005

 

LOCATION: ChristChurch Baptist Fellowship, 12501 Champion Forest Drive, Houston, Texas, 77066. www.christchurchbaptist.org.

 

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Registrations postmarked by December 24th may deduct $5 from the total entry fee (except for IE Junior Division). Registrations postmarked after January 3rd must include a $10 late fee. Do not mail your registration after January 10th without first e-mailing Diana Armstrong, dianaintx@houston.rr.com. Make check payable to West Houston Speech and Debate Club (WHSDC) and send to Diana Armstrong, 12018 Isle Vista Dr, Houston, TX 77041.

 

SCHEDULE: On Thursday will be three preliminary debate rounds and two preliminary IE rounds. On Friday will be three preliminary debate rounds and one preliminary IE round. The IE Junior Division will have three rounds on Friday. The Outrounds will be on Saturday.

 

DEBATE COMPETITION: Six preliminary rounds are offered on Thursday and Friday with outrounds on Saturday. The Novice Division is specifically for first-year debaters where both partners are age 14 and under as of January 1, 2005. The Novice Division will utilize the current NCFCA topic with all NCFCA rules except for age.

 

INDIVIDUAL EVENTS: Three preliminary rounds are offered on Thursday and Friday with outrounds on Saturday. Entry in multiple events is encouraged, but each participant is limited to a maximum five events. All eleven individual events are being offered at registration, but only those events with a minimum participation of four competitors will be held. Scripts are allowed but will result in a 1-rank penalty.

 

The Junior Division will include students age eight to twelve not competing in the main NCFCA events (a 12-year-old may not compete in both IE divisions). The Junior Division events will follow general NCFCA IE rules, but the time limit will be five minutes.

 

DRESS CODE: The spirit of the dress code is modesty and professionalism with the intent to glorify Christ. The goal is to minimize the focus on the body or outward appearance and maximize the focus on the development of ideas and communication skills. Competitors must be professional, clean and well-groomed. Gentlemen shall wear suits or sport coats and ties. Ladies shall wear either dresses, skirts, or suits. Hemlines shall fall to at least the bottom of the knee.

 

FOOD: A separate registration form for lunches and the Friday night banquet will be forthcoming.
