Speech Tournament

LOCATION:
JUNIOR SPEECH DIVISION: A Junior Speech Division for
beginning speakers age 12 and below will be offered alongside the NCFCA Region
IV Qualifying Tournament on Friday. A 12-year-old student may not compete in
both speech divisions at the same tournament. The events (Oratory, Interpretive,
and Impromptu) offered will be generally run with NCFCA rules but with a
5-minute maximum time limit. NCFCA Affiliation is not required for Junior
participants. There will be no mandatory penalties in rank for Junior Speech
events. Due to tournament resource constraints, each Junior speech event costs
$8, and participation may need to be limited. Please number your Junior speech
events in order of preference in case the participation needs to be limited.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: All registrations postmarked by April 16th will
be accepted as on time registrations. Registrations postmarked after that
date must include a $25 late fee (per student) and may be accepted on an as
available basis only. To avoid problems
with your registration, please follow the above three steps by April 16th.
Refunds will only be issued for extenuating circumstances. Don’t register
if your participation is uncertain. A family’s e-mail registration is their
commitment to pay the entire fee, even if they do not attend the tournament.
DRESS CODE: The spirit of the dress code is modesty and professionalism with the intent to glorify Christ. The goal is to minimize the focus on the body or outward appearance and maximize the focus on the development of ideas and communication skills. Competitors must be professional, clean and well-groomed. Gentlemen shall wear suits or sport coats and ties. Ladies shall wear dresses, skirts, or suits. Hemlines shall fall to at least the bottom of the knee.
CHAPERONES: All competitors under age 18 must be accompanied and supervised by a
parent, legal guardian, or adult chaperone throughout the entire tournament. An
adult chaperone (other than a parent) accepts full responsibility in the
parent’s absence and should be in possession of a signed medical release for
each student.
FOOD REGISTRATION: If you would like to purchase food, you may do so by sending in a separate food form from the registration form for older competitors. The form can be found at: http://www.ncfca.org/local_contacts/reg_4_tourn. Please note the email and snail mail registration will be sent to different addresses.
